Why Matt Runs Away

Anonymous

You bitch! he yelled to his mom. He ran out the door and slammed it shut. Matt had it all, but nothing. The Escalade his dad had bought him as a Christmas gift was left in the driveway. His parents didn't approve of him being gay and he sure as heck didn't want to welcome his boyfriend. His uncle Tom always warned his parents, "Spoiling that boy ain't gonna do nothin' but sissyfy him.”

Matt Soul–Afro/Glasses, Very Attractive But Gay—Runs Away

Anonymous

Matt is picked on and dragged through the dirt for being gay. He is harrassed at home, school and in between. On this particular Tuesday, Matt ends his school day, his shirt and Levis torn at the neck. He is heading home from school, walking fast, scared and sweating. As he is walking, a boy runs past and knocks his books from his hand. This makes Matt's day even more heavy. Matt steps into his house, which reeks of liquor and cigarettes. Reaching the end of the hall, he see his father in the worn-out recliner, drunk. His father calls out. “Hey you, Faggot, how was your day?” “Leave me the hell alone.” “Leave yourself alone, you faggot. You're not my son, I don't help create faggots.” With tears streaming down his face, he storms out, but then he remembers, he has no place to go.

Matt Soul Song

By Nigell Essix

His name is Matt Soul and his mom is on crack.
He doesn’t do it himself, ‘cause he knows its all wack.

His dad sells drugs, behind the store.
He’s not running it for him, not anymore.

His closest friend died, “o.d.ing” on cocaine.
After that one, it was never the same.

Gotta make a change, gotta rearrange, gotta have a plan, gotta turn around and make things happen.

I figured out a way to get my life intact.

I had to run away, and never turn back.
